So you want to start a blog! That’s perfect. I am here to make sure the process is seamless. The following steps will walk you through purchasing your domain to getting it launched:
First things first, you need a fabulous name for your blog. So some brainstorming and come up with a list of names for your new site. Once you have a list of named compiled, you’ll want to check on the availability of the domain names you picked out.
Head on over to GoDaddy and enter in the name of the domain you’d like to purchase. If the name is not available, GoDaddy will let you know. If the name is available you will be given the option to continue on and purchase the domain name. Domain names typically run between $10 and $25 a year depending on what type of privacy settings you choose.
In order to make your website visible you’ll need to purchase hosting. I recommend Liquid Web. They are simply the best, and they are who I use. If you are starting out, you can get their Shared Hosting, Standard Plan for $14.95 a month. It’s a bit more expensive than cheaper hosting, but I’m here to tell you, you get what you pay for. Their service is top notch. Should you absolutely need a cheaper option, Blue Host is my second choice for hosting.
Now that your hosting is setup and your domain is visible on the web, it’s time to install WordPress. Your hosting company should have a quick-install option on the hosting dashboard. Quite frankly, Liquid Web will install WordPress if you ask them. Easy peasy.
Now it’s time to make your site look beautiful. Hands down the best part of this process. Grab a Studio Press theme and get cracking!
